Comparing Yogurt Maker Features - What Do You Need?

The best yogurt maker is the one that meets your own definite needs. Production yogurt at home is a great alternative to buying commercially produced products, but there are many brands ready and an even greater range of models. With that in mind, this description is intended to take you through some of the more coarse features ready on contemporary yogurt makers so you can make a more informed decision.

Most of these appliances use an enclosed system comprising an incubator - the heating unit which maintains the climatic characteristic of the ingredients - and one or more internal fermentation vessels which hold the raw ingredients. The units are commonly powered by electricity although there are some exceptions to this rule.

The first thing you'll want to check out is the whole jars which are used in the yogurt Production process. Some machines use a whole of smaller jars while others use a larger single container. Some people prefer the smaller jars (which commonly have a capacity of about 6 ounces) as they hold a single serve and are handy to throw in your lunch box or those of your house members. The other speculate you might want to use the smaller jars is if you want to make separate varieties of yogurt in the same batch. However, most people can't be bothered doing this - especially if it means mixing up two lots of ingredients.

Size is someone else factor to consider. Most of the buyer level yogurt makers make between one and two quarts in each batch. So think about how much yogurt you and your house consume and how often you want to be Production it. This will give you an indication of whether to go for a larger model or one of the smaller ones.

Another feature offered by a whole of brands is an self-acting timer, commonly with some sort of alarm (a tone sounded to let you know when fermentation is complete) and sometimes an auto shut-off feature. The timer is handy, as is the audible alarm, especially when you think that fermentation can take in any place up to 12 hours or longer.

The auto shut-off feature is somewhat more contentious. At first glance, this seems like a good idea. Any way many owners say that you need to be around when the yogurt has accomplished so that you can put it straight in the refrigerator. If you leave it in the machine, even once the power is off, the heat will be maintained and fermentation will continue. This may lead to a taste which is more tart then you would otherwise have preferred.
